Hole Witness Requirements

HIO_10K_NACE

Larger prizes such as cars, trucks and boats will require that witnesses are posted at the tee box and/or green to verify a hole in one claim. This is as much for your protection as well as for ours. The prize value will determine how many witnesses you may need if any. Witnesses are an essential part of your golf outing insurance policy. At Golf Tournament HIO, we have set the limits as such:

Prize values of $10,000 or less:
* (2) of the players in the foursome will act as the witnesses for the Hole in One coverage
* No third party witness is required, but it is still a good idea to incorporate one if possible

As you might imagine, most of your higher priced prizes are going to need additional people to be an impartial observer.

Prize values of $10,001 to $49,999:
* (2) of the players in the foursome will act as the witnesses for the Hole in One coverage
* (1) official third party witness positioned at either the tee box or the green of the designated prize hole

Most golf tournament witnesses choose to remain at the tee box so that they can meet all the golfers as they arrive at the hole.

Prize values of $50,000 to $100,000:
* (2) of the players in the foursome will act as the witnesses for the Hole in One coverage
* (1) official third party witness positioned at the TEEING AREA of the designated prize hole
* (1) official third party witness positioned at the GREEN of the designated prize hole

All prizes that are over $100,000 have some additional requirements that need to be considered. The most important of which includes videotaping each attempt (including the measurement of the placement of the hole). It is rare that a charity golf fundraiser will purchase a Hole in One insurance policy for the entire field of golfers to attempt to win a prize of this dollar value. Quite frankly, the cost could become prohibitive. However, during a one million dollar shootout, video taping becomes a very realistic requirement.

For this reason, we often suggest that instead of doing a one million dollar golf shootout you may want to consider having 10 golfers attempt to win $100,000 each. This way your golf tournament can get some more participation, and you don’t need to worry about videotaping the shootout.

And remember, mulligans or second shots can not be used to win any hole in one prizes.
